Practicing Forgiveness
There are many misconceptions about forgiveness. Forgiveness is merely a letting go; letting go of old grievances, hurts, wrongs, and pain. Forgiveness is never about the other person. It is only about you.
What are you holding onto? Do you feel angry, resentful, afraid?
Think about a person you feel has wronged you. It could be someone in physical form or one who has passed away. It could be recent or years ago.
How do you feel when you think about this person? Do you feel angry, afraid, sad, guilty, ashamed?
Take a few deep breaths and connect with your body. Where do you feel this emotion? In your heart, your solar plexus, your throat?
Keep breathing and allow yourself to feel this energy. It may be a bit uncomfortable at first, but stick with it. This energy is not serving you anymore. It is time to let it go. Give this energy permission to uplift. It has served you well. It’s okay if you don’t know exactly where it is in your body. You may just feel heavy, tense or out of balance.
All you need to do is allow this to happen. You may feel a shift. You may feel lighter or more expansive. It may happen immediately or take several days. Just allow it to uplift at its own pace.
This process applies to all forgiveness as well. Notice what feelings come up when you think about something you haven’t forgiven yourself for. Then follow the same process.
As you let go more and more, you will start feeling lighter, happier, more joyful. Your heart will open to have more love and compassion for yourself, as well as others. You cannot do this wrong.
Love and blessings to all of you!
